Who we are

Passion Play

Churches Together in Bishop’s Stortford is more affectionately known as CTBS. CTBS exists as a demonstration of the fundamental unity of all Christians in the town. It aims to

  • co-ordinate the activities of the individual churches as they reach out to their communities
  • help groups of churches to share resources and work together on projects of mutual interest (such as the King's Arms and Holiday Bible Week)
  • help churches share ideas and best practice in serving the needs of the town
  • identify areas where all the churches in the town can work together to achieve things which are either not possible for any single congregation or are better achieved together

If you happened to be in town on Good Friday you will have seen one of the regular occasions where the churches get together to share the good news of Jesus’ love. Some other examples you may be aware of are the Millennium Passion Play, the recent presentation "On the Spot" and the pre Election Hustings event at the Charis Centre.

CTBS Structure

CTBS is responsible to the Forum (something like a parliament) which is composed of 3 members from each church; this is usually 1 church leader and 2 other members. The forum meets three times a year. Also represented at the forum are various Associate Members (see below). To manage the day to day activities of CTBS the forum elects a Chair, vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and 3 working parties. These officers and the chairs of the 3 working parties form a sort of cabinet called the enabling group.
